Fishing in France
The River Charente flows through the village of Dompierre making it an excellent location for a course fishing holiday. Gites du Logis is located a 5 min walk from the river. The river stocks a variety of fish and the wild carp have an excellent reputation for the fight they put up. There are paths each side of the river, so access to fishing spots is easily accessible by car or on foot. A permit can be purchased from the Patisserie in the village which allows fishing on the river. The permit also allows you to fish without any surcharge in nearly all of the rivers and streams in the département as well as in most of the lakes, ponds and reservoirs.
Permit:
Valid from 15th May – 31st Dec a 15 day holiday permit can be purchased for €26. During the same period a daily permit can be purchased for €10 Any other time of year €61 (Gites du Logis can purchase the permit prior to arrival, if requested)
Carp – The season All year Pike - The season 1st Jan – last Sunday in Jan. 3rd Saturday in April – 31 December.
Pike -less than 50 cms have to be returned to the water alive.
Shad - The season 1st February - 30th June inclusive. Most likely to be caught in May and June.
Shad less than 30 cms have to be returned to the water alive.Trout - The season 2nd Saturday in March - 3rd Sunday in September inclusive. On the river Sèvre Niortaise, Charente, Boutonne and Seudre
Trout less than 25cm have to be returned to the river alive.
The limit of the take home catch is 6 trout per person per day all other trout have to be returned to the river alive.All other fish - Providing you have a fishing permit all other fish can be fished all year round.
Black Bass less than 30 cms have to be returned to the water alive.
Zander less than 40 cms have to be returned to the water alive.
Sea Lampreys less than 40cms have to be returned to the water alive.
